The 2020 Conference on Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA), which was to be held in Oxford, UK, in mid-April, has been postponed because of the rapidly-evolving situation with COVID-19. The CAA Executive Steering Committee and the local organiser discussed various options, but the health of all attendees as well as those involved in facilitating the conference has to be our highest priority. Participants from affected regions or those who would need to transit through those areas would be particularly impacted.
We therefore feel it is the most responsible decision to postpone CAA 2020. We encourage those of you who have made travel arrangements to cancel or modify them as soon as possible. Please contact the vendor or your credit card company, bank, or insurer to discuss refunds.
We are currently exploring options for rescheduling the conference to the autumn of this year. We will follow up with details about the new plans as soon as they are available.
In anticipation of some of the questions attendees may have:
- There will not be a new call for papers. All papers, posters, sessions, and workshops accepted for CAA2020 in Oxford are accepted for the postponed conference.
- Our intention is to hold an Annual General Meeting at the rescheduled conference date.
- Those awarded bursaries for CAA 2020 Oxford will be eligible to use the funds at the rescheduled conference. No further bursary applications will be accepted as the funds for this year have already been allocated. Bursary applicants will be notified soon.
- If you have questions or require confirmation of the event’s postponement for your employer, university, or travel provider, please contact the local organizing team at: caa2020@arch.ox.ac.uk.
We very much regret this difficult situation, but we must look out for the safety of all our members. We hope many of you will be able to join us in the autumn and will be working hard to make plans for the rescheduled conference, so please stay tuned for further updates. We hope to establish new dates for the event as soon as possible. Thank you for your efforts in contributing to the scientific programme and the CAA community.
