Managing Editor for Journal of Computer Applications in Archaeology (JCAA)

The Journal of Computer Applications in Archaeology (JCAA) is looking for a new Managing Editor to start on 1 September 2026. This is a voluntary position, involving an average commitment of around 2–3 hours per week.

JCAA is a Q1, peer-reviewed, open access electronic journal dedicated to the full range of digital and computational archaeology, including 3D modelling, spatial analysis, remote sensing, geophysics, field recording, databases, semantic web, statistics, data mining, simulation, network analysis, and digital reconstructions of the past. The role offers an opportunity to help shape one of the field’s leading journals, work closely with an international editorial team, and contribute to the development of high-quality open-access publishing in archaeology. Tasks:
Manage the review process of incoming papers in close collaboration with the second Managing Editor, including desk rejections, reviewer identification and communication, and communication of editorial decisions to authors.
Do the copyediting of papers accepted for publication (checking on language, bibliography, and illustrations).
Collaborate with the Editorial Board, publisher, and CAA International on guidelines, journal policies, marketing, and any related matters.

Requirements:
A strong track record in Computational or Digital Archaeology, preferably in an academic context
A solid publication record in peer-reviewed venues
Demonstrable experience in peer review and editorial work, preferably for an archaeological journal
Excellent written English
