Fall 2013 will witness the largest international scientific event ever held centred on digital heritage, with the Digital Heritage Congress 2013. For the first time ever, under the patronage of UNESCO, the leading scientific and industry events from across the digital and heritage spheres will join at one venue. Participating organizations in this federated event include VSMM, Eurographics GCH, UNESCO’s Memory of the World, Arquaeologica2.0., Archeovirtual, CAA, Digital Art Week, CIPA, Space2Place, ICOMOS ICIP, and Museum & Technology. The Congress will bring together hundreds of researchers, educators, scientists, industry professionals, and policy makers to debate, discuss and present digital technology applied to the protection, documentation, and understanding of humanity’s shared heritage.

Organized by French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), in collaboration with local research institutions of Provence (Aix-Marseille University, Arts et Métiers ParisTech, CICRP, School of Architecture and INRIA), the Congress will be held in Marseille, France, the 2013 European Capital of Culture. The venue will be Marseille’s architecturally stunning new waterfront museum complex.

Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA) will host a special symposium that will cover four of the major topic areas normally presented at the annual CAA conferences (http://www.caaconference.org). The organisers of this symposium kindly invite you to submit a paper, focusing on one of the following topics:

  1. Spatial Analysis and GIS;
  2. Remote Sensing (including aerial photography, geophysics);
  3. Data Acquisition and Management (databases, thesauri, gazetteers, etc.);
  4. Computer and Mathematical Modelling (simulations, agent based modelling, quantitative and statistical methods, etc.).

Submission will soon be possible online: http://www.digitalheritage2013.org/?page_id=14

Please note that for this conference, there will be a departure from normal CAA practices. After papers are accepted, they must be submitted in complete form prior to the conference.

All paper submissions will be double-blind peer-reviewed by at least three referees from the International Scientific Committee. Proceedings will be published by IEEE. Selected papers will also have the option of being republished in a number of prestigious journals to be determined, including the ACM Journal on Computers and Cultural Heritage. Note that since this is a joint World Congress, you need to submit only once to be considered for the integrated joint proceedings of all affiliated events.

For further information please feel free to contact the CAA Symposium organisers Jeff Clark (Jeffrey.Clark@ndsu.edu) and Axel Posluschny (axel.posluschny@dainst.de)

Please forgive dual postings.
